CENTRAL. CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF THE ART'S DISTRICT

WELCOME TO CENTRAL - ONLINE!

We are happy to have you as our online guest!  Central is a unique gathering of christian friends that promote the following:

Everyone Belongs - We mean that.  Regardless of your background / style of dress / car / hair / music / race / bank account balance...you name it, YOU are accepted. Belonging is not based on believing the correct doctrines, or behaving in certain ways, or having to become just like us. You are invited to join us on our spiritual journey just as you are. Belonging is based on mutual respect (love one another) and common purpose (to follow Jesus where he leads).

We Believe Jesus is Lord - That's it!  We don't maintain a moral list of do's and dont's; we don't memorize creeds or covenants; we don't believe just like our pastor or leadership; we believe that "Jesus is Lord" and we believe that YOU (along with a little help from the Holy Spirit) know best about what that means for your daily living and life. Through study, prayer, discussion and sharing we seek to grow as followers and as disciples . . . in our beliefs, in our understandings, and in our commitment to Jesus.

We Want to Become Servants - We want to become "Matthew 25" Christians.  Our faith is meaningless if it doesn't prompt us to "love our neighbor and the least of these" as we love ourselves. In the letter of James, he makes the point clear, "Faith, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." We take seriously the call to action, finding ways to reach out to others in service and  love.

Barry Smith and Family

The Search Committee invited Barry Smith to share with us during the Encounter worship service on January 22. Barry brought the message and then he and his family visited with us during the meal following the service. We all were honored to meet his wife Tammy and his daughters Sydney and Madison.

The Search Committee is now asking for feedback. They have requested that all who attended the Encounter service call at least one member of the Search Committee and share your thoughts and feelings about the possibility of calling Barry Smith to be our minister.

Members of the Search Committee are Lisa Holt, Courtney Harvey, Alphas Wicker, Christi Beck, Donna Dockstader, and Michie Brous. Phone numbers for these people can be found in your church directory or by calling the church office at 817-335-1520.

Your feedback is needed and will be greatly appreciated. Please take the time to share your input in this significant matter . . . and continue to pray for your church and the Barry Smith family.

Church Food Pantry and Emergency Food Kits

When the Angel Food Program ceased operation in October, the Outreach/Service team discussed how we could continue serving those who had depended on the Angel Food boxes each month.  Since 2006 when we began participating in the Angel Food program, we provided between 3-7 boxes of food free to those who could not otherwise afford to order.  Sometimes unclaimed boxes were given away to others who came to the church office asking for assistance.  At the same time, our secretary, Sharron Anderson, expressed the desire to have a small pantry with a few staple food items on hand to give out.

At the November meeting of the Outreach/Service team it was decided that we would develop a more complete food pantry and put together emergency food kits for the church office to distribute as needed. Judy Sager and Donna Dockstader agreed to organize, and stock this food pantry.  It was also decided that two different kits would be created – one for an individual and a one for family.  A list of items was developed and posted on the Service Event board in the narthex, and a collection bin has been placed there for donations from members.

Emergency food kits are designed to meet the needs of people who need immediate assistance, may be without jobs and may not have any facilities to cook a meal.  Therefore all food items have pull-top lids, do not required refrigeration and have disposable type packaging.  A booklet is also being developed that lists other agencies in the Fort Worth area that provide free food and other social services, and will be included in the emergency kit.
